1. Transmission type LCD display
Using the light emitted by a backlight (divided into side mounted and bottom mounted) for illumination, and displaying it through LCD screens and color filters. The bottom mounted backlight increases the weight and thickness of the display screen, and also requires power and power consumption. It is basically not used for portable devices such as mobile phones, but is mostly used for large and high brightness display devices such as LCD TVs and computer monitors that are easy to power on.
2. Semitransparent LCD display
Having both transmissive and reflective structural features, utilizing reflection under daytime external light can save power consumption. Backlighting should be used indoors and at night, making it the most suitable for portable devices. Currently, colored portable devices such as color phones mostly use semi transparent lighting.
3. Reflective LCD display
Due to external light such as sunlight during the day and indoor lighting shining on the surface of the display (reflected inside the LCD screen). The reflected light is displayed through LCD screens and color filters, without the power consumption of backlight sources, and is also lightweight. It is commonly used in calculators, clocks, and other applications.
In reflective liquid crystal displays, the pixel electrodes used as the reflection plate for light are mostly made of metal films such as aluminum and silver. The incident light that enters the reflective liquid crystal display is reflected by the internal pixel electrodes and then emitted outward through the liquid crystal layer. In order to increase the reflected light as much as possible and improve the viewing angle, it is necessary to form bumps on the surface of the pixel electrode by adopting this structure. And to set up a light diffusion film on the upper part of the liquid crystal layer, both efforts need to be made to improve the performance.
