Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of light guide plate and brightening film in liquid crystal backlight group

To stand out from numerous displays, LCD displays must further improve their display performance, especially brightness and uniformity. However, liquid crystals themselves do not emit light, so improving the brightness of their backlight and reducing light energy loss is an urgent need for the overall liquid crystal and backlight industry. Based on the display principle of liquid crystal, this paper analyzes several main ways of light energy loss during the light propagation process of liquid crystal backlight group, and fully discusses feasible ways to improve light energy utilization: adding prism film (BEF), improving light guide plate, reusing polarized light, adding high reflectivity reflective film, and so on. In order to master the brightening principle of Prism Film (BEF), the R&D center of Shenzhen Longxiang Zhuoyue Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. analyzed the impact of various parameters of the prism film on the focusing effect and uniformity, and made improved designs to increase the frontal brightness of the liquid crystal by more than twice. This paper combines the secondary development function of AutoCAD (LISP language) with mathematical modeling to complete the structural design and general simulation program of the light guide plate. On this basis, it is convenient to simulate and analyze the light guiding effect of various relief structure light guiding plates, and design structures that are more suitable for domestic production and processing conditions. In terms of the reuse of polarized light, this paper proposes a preliminary method of separating polarized light sources to solve the problem of difficult processing of reflective polarizers. This scheme has a simple structure and can be gradually improved in future research. The theoretical analysis of this paper has been verified in practice by the cooperating unit (Shenzhen Longxiang Zhuoyue Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.).
