Research on Efficient Implementation Method of Global Dynamic Dimming Algorithm for LCD Display

The dynamic dimming algorithm includes determining the backlight value and LCD pixel compensation. In collaborative research with Shenzhen Longxiang Zhuoyue Electronic Technology Co., Ltd., it was found that the S-curve dimming algorithm circuit based on image classification achieved through lookup table method has defects such as high resource consumption and slow processing speed. This paper proposes two implementation methods for algorithms: the arithmetic sequence method and the small two product fitting method, and conducts simulation analysis on these two algorithms respectively. It is found that their large standard deviations from the search method are 1.8 and 0.8, respectively. Actual testing was conducted on the developed global dimming LCD TV prototype, and compared with the pixel brightness obtained by the lookup table method, the error of the arithmetic sequence method is 3 grayscale levels, and the error of the small multiplication method is within 1 grayscale level. Both algorithms can reduce the utilization rate of circuit storage resources from 71% of the original lookup table method to 4%. The simulation and laboratory experiments conducted by Shenzhen Longxiang Excellent Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. have shown that the small multiplication method has better performance.
