LCD screens are applied to every aspect of our lives, including our daily mobile phones, home televisions, household appliances, calculators, computers, and more. There are many types of display screens, including LCD screens, as well as new OLED flexible screens, miniLED screens, microLED screens, and more. So what are the types of display screens? How are they defined? Today, the editor will take you to learn more.
1. Segment code LCD screen
The segment code LCD screen was initially developed in Japan and introduced to China in the 1980s, mainly to replace LED digital tubes (composed of 7 pen segments, used to display numbers 0-9), such as calculators, clocks, etc. The display content is all numbers and relatively simple. There are also many different names, such as pen segment LCD screen, small-sized LCD screen, 8-character screen, patterned LCD screen, etc.
2. Dot matrix screen
Dot matrix screens can be divided into LCD dot matrix and LED dot matrix screens. In simple terms, there are many points within a range, which are called pixels. Dot matrix LCD pixels are composed of fixed sized points arranged in an array; For example, 12864 is composed of horizontal 128X vertical 64 points.
3. TFT color screen
TFT is a classification of LCD, which is the prototype of all current LCD screen improvements. This type of screen, which was used on older smartphones in the past, also belongs to the dot matrix category and emphasizes pixels. The colors in it are the concept of color scale. Color scale is an exponential standard that represents the brightness of a liquid crystal display screen, commonly known as the color index. There are generally three color qualities commonly seen on the market now: 256 colors, 4096 colors, and 64K (i.e. 65536) colors, or even higher, 260000 colors. The display effect varies with different color qualities. The display is divided into three categories: ordinary text, simple images (similar to cartoon images, mainly menu charts and drawn standby screens), and photo images. As for users who have high requirements for photo quality, 64K color is certainly a better choice.
4. LED screen
The LED screen is simple, it is composed of many LED lights, and the signs of the streets and small ports are all like this.
5. OLED screen
OLED screens display imaging through pixel self illumination. From this perspective, OLED screens are more advanced in technology than LCD screens. In addition, OLED screens can be made thinner in thickness, which is beneficial for controlling the thickness of the entire machine.
Overall, both types of display screens can be classified as LCD and OLED on a large scale. There is a fundamental difference in light emission between the two types of screens: one is illuminated by external light sources, and the other is self luminous. From the current development situation, these two camps will continue to use and meet the needs of different users for color expression.
6. MiniLED screen
Mini LED, also known as submillimeter light-emitting diode, is the first LED proposed by Wafer Optoelectronics with a size of approximately 100 micrometers. Mini LED is a transitional technology between traditional LED and micro LED, and an improved version of traditional LED backlighting.
7. MicroLED screen
MicroLED screen is a new generation of display technology with a matrix of miniaturized LEDs. In short, LED backlight is thinner, smaller, and LED units are smaller than 100 microns.
