This article is a part of the work on formulating energy-saving standards for flat panel TVs in China. Due to the fact that LCD TVs cover different backlight display modes, it is necessary to develop testing methods and evaluation indicators that are suitable for different display principles, while also considering the coordination and unity of evaluation methods with existing standards.
The main focus of this study is to address the aforementioned issues.
This article first summarizes the development process of LCD TV technology in China, introduces the working principle of LCD TV and the arrangement of backlight sources, studies the differences in testing methods and evaluation indicators between China and foreign energy-saving standards for televisions, and points out the main reasons for the long-term lack of energy-saving standards for flat panel televisions in China. Energy conservation assessments are conducted according to experimental methods in various countries, The analysis of test results has drawn some valuable conclusions for engineering applications; Then, this article further studied the driving circuits of the CCFL and LED backlight modules of the LCD TV, pointing out that the backlight module is the main factor affecting the overall energy consumption of the machine. Based on this, two indicators were proposed: startup energy consumption and energy efficiency index. Then, from the perspectives of technical principles and testing rationality, a brightness experimental plan was designed, and a nine point average brightness assessment method was proposed.
